Driving during the winter months

Driving in wintery conditions can be worrying and it may be that there are some journeys that you simply cannot avoid. If you do not have to go out and drive when the weather is really bad then don’t. It is often not worth the risk and may end badly. If you have an accident you may end up getting hurt or even if you don’t your car may be badly damaged making it undriveable or costly to repair.

It is important to always have a winter emergency pack in your car should the worse happen. Within this kit you should have a mobile phone (if you do not always carry one with you) along with phone chargers, a blanket, ice scrapper and shovel, snacks, touch that is charged or has batteries in it and winter screen wash. This should be kept in the car at all times along with the year round items you need such as oil, spare bulbs, hi vis jacket and warning triangle.

Before setting off on a journey in extreme conditions you should also pack extras just for the journey such as a hot flask of tea or coffee and extra layers of clothing.
