Replacing your coil springs on your vehicle

The coil springs are part of the suspension on your car and they help to stabilise the vehicle. They are designed to spring up and down as the car travels across the road surface to allow the car to bounce slightly when going over bumps and dips to give a smoother ride. If these springs weren’t in place the car would not allow for movement and therefore would break apart.

If you have a broken coil spring then you may notice that your car is not handling as it should. When replacing coil springs you are often advised to do them in pairs – i.e both on front axle or both on the rear –this is not just because the garage want to charge you more money there is a good reason for doing so. Often aftermarket coil springs are slightly different from the manufacturer’s standard ones that would have been fitted when the car was new. Therefore you need to have two of them so the car sits balanced on both sides. Prices for changing springs can vary on garage and the model of the car but if you are prepared to source the parts yourself you may find that you can nearly half the price quoted.
