Buying a second hand car? Always check the tyres

When buying a second hand car there are so many things that you need to check to ensure the vehicle that you are buying is safe and worth the advertised price. It’s easy to check certain things about the car like the body work and interior of the car for any damage and harder to check for the condition of the engine (unless you know quite a bit about cars). But one area often over looked is the current condition of the tyres.

The condition of the tyres can be an indication of how the car has been treated, badly worn tyres can indicate that the car has not been maintained well and could have been driven erratically by the previous owners. Uneven wear could indicate an underlying issue with the car possibly down to out of balance tracking or issues with the axels.

Also it’s important to remember that if you are buying a car that needs all four tyres replaced your looking at immediately adding about £300 – £400 to the purchase price of the vehicle.
