Many people are unsure as to what the rules are regarding MOT’s in the current situation. At present you can still take your car for a MOT but emergency services workers such as those that work in the NHS may be give priority to get them back on the roads as soon as possible.
It may be that soon they stop people taking their cars to MOT test stations and either do a collection and drop off service or just extend all MOT’s for the next three months at which point they can review it again.
A MOT is an important test which all cars over three years of age need to have done. If they do extend the MOT testing dates then it is still important that you carry out some basic checks yourself to ensure that you car is safe to drive.
Always have a look at your tyres ideally before every journey or at least once a week. Check not only that they are inflated adequately but also that they have no signs of damaged or excessive wear.
You should also check your fluid levels such as coolant, oil and screen wash.
