As the worse of the winter weather is now here, it is essential that drivers look after their vehicles if they are to avoid the vehicle letting them down on a cold frosty morning. During the often freezing winter months having the car in tip top condition will hopefully mean trouble-free motoring through to spring. Probably the most important issue in winter is whether the vehicle tyres have plenty of tread on them. It may be worth having winter tyres, which are specifically designed to give better grip, fitted on the vehicle as safety should be any driver’s top priority.
Another issue for many drivers in winter is a failure of the vehicle battery. This should be checked to make sure it is maintaining its charge as the cold mornings can cause the battery to fail resulting in the car not starting. If the battery is more than a few years old, it may be better to get a new one for peace of mind.
If the vehicle is regularly serviced the coolant system should have the necessary antifreeze in the system and a suitable anti-freeze product in the window washers. If not then this is easily rectified as most garages and supermarkets sell these products and it is a simple process to add them to the vehicle coolant system and washer fluid container.
