Eco Tyres: Worth the money?

Most major brands now have a low rolling resistance, mpg-boosting option to consider – at a healthy premium. Of course, the premium is supposed to be offset by the improved mpg, but is that the case? In short, it depends on your driving style and pattern. If you’re driving massive mileages sensibly and paying for the tyres yourself then possibly. But in most cases and in real driving conditions you’ll probably find the tyres much less grippy, and the supposed improvements to mpg won’t really materialise – especially over shorter distances, and particularly within the average trip to work (a round trip of less than 30 miles).

If you are driving the massive mileages, then chances are your business is paying for the tyres anyway, so it’s not worth the insistence. For one, your company won’t want to stand the additional cost, and for two, the original is always best.
