If you look at cars as you walk down the street, you will probably notice a large number of them have scuffed alloy wheels. Alloys wheels have been used on cars for years now but many are still very susceptible to scuffs and damage. Often alloys are scuffed when parking a car next to the curb, it is easily done and sometimes can happen without you even realising it.
If left, a deep scuff can not only look unsightly but can cause the wheel to corrode it, so it’s really not a good idea to leave a damaged alloy for too long. If you hit the curb quite hard then you may not only have scuffed your alloy wheels but also damaged the tyre or the tracking. If you notice any damage to the tyre or that the car is not driving in a straight line, then take it to your nearest garage to get it checked out.
Many alloy wheels repair companies will charge you between £50-£100 for alloy wheel repairs depending on where the damage is and how bad it is. There are a number of products on the market that allow you to do a DIY repair that if done carefully can be very effective on cosmetic surface scuffs. If the car is a hire car, then you may be better to pay their excess for damage rather than pay for the repair in case the repair job isn’t good enough and the hire company charge you anyway.
