During the cold and frequently wet winter months our cars are often neglected. We expect to jump into them and for them to start first time and run well every journey. This may be the case with a brand new car but if you find yourself driving a car that is more than a few years old it is wise to plan ahead for the winter months.
Probably the most important consideration in winter are the tyres. It is well worth investing in winter tyres on your vehicle as safety should be a priority. If the current tyres are still roadworthy an extra set of wheels with the winter tyres on could be swapped over on to the vehicle and changed back in the summer months. Often a set of wheels can be purchased cheaply from a breakers yard.
The vehicle battery should be checked to make sure it is maintaining its charge as the cold mornings can cause the battery to fail.
To prevent problems with the coolant system, antifreeze should be used as directed and an appropriate product used in the window washers.
As the roads are often muddy in the winter months it is important that headlights are kept free of dirt and grime.
