It could be argued that your tyres are the most important part of your car when considering your safety. If your tyres are faulty, then no matter how new or reliable your car is you could have major problems right beneath your feet.
Choosing the correct tyres for your car is difficult because there are so many different types out there and it very much depends on the general use of the vehicle and the weather conditions.
If you are driving in the winter months you will need a tyre that has large deep treads to give you maximum grip in the ice and snow, whereas in the summer months your tyres can be made of softer rubber compounds which come with a minimal tread. These are often called performance tyres and are not usually advisable for weather conditions in the UK.
A better choice is all season tyres which are the type of tyres most new cars are fitted with as standard. These provide you with a balance of performance, grip and all-weather safety making them a good compromise. Specific wet weather tyres are designed with channels to force water away from the tyre surface making them much safer especially if you do a lot of motorway driving.
